Something strange is happening in French markets…

July 31st, 2010 · 2 Comments · Foodie gadgets, Foodie gifts

And I don’t mean there’s a danger of them selling out to big names, as is being suggested may be happen at home to some of our best loved food markets. Oh no, this is more like an outbreak, a rash…something you see about every 10 yards…

Patterned

Plain & simple

Multi-coloured

Girly pink

Just downright trendy

The shopping trolley, but not as we know it. Whilst I have spotted one square, boxy version in tartan with white wheels, most of these are trendy colours and designs. The sort of thing that most of us would not be too embarrassed to be seen with.

And, lets face it, they are eminently practical for doing a market shop. Rather than give up half way round as your shopping is already too heavy you can keep on rolling, and tasting. France is somewhat ahead of the UK anyway in that supermarkets no longer give away plastic bags, so shopping bags generally are in greater supply, and in great designs.

I’m just working out if I’ve got room for a trolley in amongst all the food and wine that is coming back. Whilst I am sure the trendies of Borough have already discovered these (there may even have been foodie warfare over a foot being runover or buttock rammed) these have yet to make it to the East Midlands.

I’m thinking of starting an import business. Anyone want one? Although I have it on good authority that Oliver Bonas are already carrying them!

They sell quite nice ones in IKEA. They invaded most of London quite a few years ago even the non trendy bits. Orla Kiely used to do a lovely one but IKA obviously cheaper!

Just me being behind the times then! Not very prevalent around here though. Didn’t manage to fit one in the car, though was very very tempted!
