Mini drinking treasures

March 19th, 2013 · No Comments · British favourites, Kitchenwares

I think I may be behind the curve here, but twice within ten days I’d seen the same thing, and thought this must be the next big thing to happen.

I’m talking about mini milk bottles, which I first saw at the Tobie Norris on Mother’s Day. Then on Friday it turned up with my delicious Tregothnan tea at breakfast at The Natural Kitchen in Marylebone.

Mini milk bottles

Once is interesting, twice is something else going on. And, being of a certain age, then I have a sense of nostalgia for these, remembering them arriving at school each morning. However, now being of a certain age, I could also see them having other stuff in them. I mean, alcoholic chocolate milkshakes have to be served in something after all!

It would seem they are easy enough to track down: a search in Google revealed over 6 million results. You can get six in a crate from the Dot Com Gift Shop, which will set you back just under a tenner. If you wanted fancy, then Not On the High Street can offer you options with “drink me” labels and straws, but these are £4 a pop.

If you want to get more than one, then Drinkstuff do them in multiples of 1, 4 or 12, so you can start really building a collection. Should three be your lucky number, then I thought the set of three at Sarah Raven was good value at less than £6. I think putting flowers in them is optional.

Now, if the rest of you have cupboards full of these things (gathering dust just next to all your slate serving platters) could you just break it to me gently? And preferably before I order a crateful! But somethings are perhaps beyond trends, and I just think they are rather lovely.
