Indulging in a bit of spicy chocolate

August 15th, 2010 · No Comments · Chocolate, Foodie gifts, Sweet treats

I may have mentioned it before, but I quite like my chocolate. Mainly really good chocolate (although on a bad day have been known to have an affair with a Mint Aero to my shame). Given that the weather is so miserable I decided that a) I needed chocolate and b) flavours mixing it up a bit with spice might warm things up a bit.

I’m also a bit of a sucker for striking packaging, which is why this itch was being scratched with Dolfin Dark Chocolate with Pink Peppercorns and also their Milk Chocolate with Hot Masala. I thought I would prefer the dark one, as plain is my preferred normal chocolate, and a bit of a fan of pink peppercorn. At 60% cocoa solids, the chocolate is smooth but with a nice bite to it. The pink peppercorns are subtle but not lost, a delicate flavour rather than a big spicy kick. Perfect post dinner chocolate for me.

The Hot Masala has the creamy smoothness of a 32% solids chocolate to work around flavours that remind me of a chai latte. The hot probably refers to the spice mix when it starts out, as certainly there is no heat to it in the chocolate. It’s not unpleasant, and I could probably tuck into this anytime at all. If you really want a big hit of spice and chocolate then I recommend Chili Hot from Conscious Chocolate. I love the silky texture of this raw chocolate, and definitely wait for the afterburn on this one!

Just going to have an After Eight to cool down…
