So, it’s Sunday night. Another week ahead.
Another week of packed lunches.
I have to admit, it has always filled me with dread. Trying not to make every day the same. Or too dull. Not to mention too last minute. Or too unhealthy.
Never mind, only another 6 weeks till half term.
In the meantime, here’s a few things that might help
A salad can definitely be more than just a few sad lettuce leaves and a tomato. This box allows you to keep things separate, and take and mix your own dressing. Plus, never forget a fork as it’s included. Works with kids lunches too, you can use the dressing pot for things like hummus. But why should the kids get all the good stuff?
Whether you’re likely to eat lunch on the go, or can’t face the Tetris of trying to fit your lunch into the office fridge, then an insulated lunch bag is a godsend. Pack it well with ice blocks and lunch should be still in good shape.
I’ve had one of these for years. It’s perfect for homemade soup, or leftover stew or dahl. If you get them hot, and the flask hot before you put them in, it’s still hot enough to eat at 1 pm. Wide-mouthed, it allows you take all kinds of home-cooked food. So, love your leftovers and liven up lunchtime.
These are a bit of a lifehack if you don’t have a divided lunchbox. You can put fruit in them or fairly solid dips like hummus or guacamole. Maybe if you’ve got things like falafel for dipping, they can go in there too.
If you want to avoid adding to the plastic problem, then a reusable water bottle is a great way to do it. You can get one to infuse fruit into, or insulated to keep it cool. I like these ones, but there are plenty around.
If you need ideas on the contents, then Pinterest will serve up endless possibilities. I’ve got a board called Liven Up Lunchtime if you want a place to start. Though I still am in awe of a lot of bento boxes. I am a bad mother, and it’s going to be a cold day in hell before I turn one of those out!
What’s your favourite lunch time combo or time-saving hint? Would love to know.
